I have looked in the mirror
over 43,000 times in my life. I don’t see changes every day but my face has
changed: a few wrinkles and lines now that show my maturity. I put makeup on,
which covers some, but my natural face remains, the one I was born with. I must
look on it with love. I have a body that lasts a few years and then retires to
the ground where it came from. My spirit lives on.
While here on earth I want to
look the best I can every day. Not because of beauty, it is fleeting, but
because of community. When I walk out the door I represent my Christian faith
first, my family second, and my community third. We can choose what we wear and
how we will appear to others. If my hair is messy and clothes rumpled or unclean,
I show that I don’t care about myself or those around me. I don’t need to dress
to impress but to be considerate of others.
How I react to people in my
church, home, and community reflects who I am. If I am full of anger,
resentment, fear, and anxiety it will show on my face, in my body, and how I am
revealed to others. The Holy Spirit can work in our lives and give us His
fruits which are: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness,
Gentleness, and Self Control. When those character traits are shown in our
lives, who wouldn’t want to be around us and tap into that beauty?
There is a strong thread
running through our lives weaving goodness, strength, courage, kindness, and
love through our personality and our thoughts. All we must do is ask Jesus to
guide us. He will provide. I am not going to be happy, joyful, and strong every
day, but I feel that blanket of love woven around me. Warm and comforting.
I have a choice every day. When
I look in the mirror who will I see? I see a reflection of the person I want to
be and strive for that every day. It will take my entire life to get there. My
spirit will carry my work here into eternity, falling gently into His arms.
